A stunning night image of a black rhino by @brendoncremer here. The black rhino is, sadly, a critically endangered species across Africa (and locally extinct in many parts) due to poaching for its horns. The situation has again worsened in recent years as a growth in the middle-class populations of several south east Asian countries has increased demand for rhino horn for 'medicinal' remedies for self-inflicted and trivial issues such as hangovers. Needless to say, the rhino horn has no benefit (you'd get the same 'medicine' if you ground up and consumed human nails) and even if it did, a hangover cure would be no compensation for the extinction of such a magnificent animal. A significant proportion (exact numbers are protected for good reason but maybe 20-25%) of the world's remaining black rhino live in or near Etosha National Park, making it a crucial place in the war against poachers and, one hopes, the continued survival of this magnificent beast.
.

We love Etosha National Park in Namibia ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฆ and wanted to start this #etoshaexplorer community to feature park visitors' photographs and stories because it's a bit under-represented compared to some of Africa's other fantastic national parks.
.

Please do share this blog so we can grow the Etosha community and please use #etoshaexplorer so we can feature your pictures and stories as we go.
