some would say this is a floating smoothie, but I just photoshopped my hand out 😂 I’ve been so MIA here the last few days and it wasn’t intentional but I took the weekend off from posting. Honestly, life has been crazy busy with work + spending time with people that mean the most to me! 😊 I took a day trip with my sister on Saturday to see all the pretty colors of the leaves 🍂 + then went home for the day yesterday to see my family. some would say this is a floating smoothie, but I just photoshopped my hand out 😂 I’ve been so MIA here the last few days and it wasn’t intentional but I took the weekend off from posting. Honestly, life has been crazy busy with work + spending time with people that mean the most to me! 😊 I took a day trip with my sister on Saturday to see all the pretty colors of the leaves 🍂 + then went home for the day yesterday to see my family. Feeling feelings. I went out to dinner this weekend at a place I’ve visited about a billion times. Probably more like thirty, but same..and same menu, but this weekend was different.

This weekend, I noticed the calories listed after the price. I acknowledge my privilege in being able to eat in restaurants and not consistently checking prices. But more than that, I acknowledge my privilege in not being focused on calories.

This has happened before: I worked as a residential dietitian and took my crew to a Starbucks. I didn’t understand what was taking so long for my humans to order. They weren’t looking at the options, they were comparing caloric loads. 
The listing of calories on menus and at restaurants and online is not going to stop, and I think that it’s important we all understand why it won’t: This is a completely illogical bullshit response to weight stigma and the ‘epidemic’ of human existence.

This may have been intended to encourage people to make ‘healthy’ choices, but what has happened instead is a disconnection from desire. A movement away from intuition and body trust. And because diet culture dictates what ‘health’ is, most people who are checking calories are choosing the lower calorie options.

This doesn’t promote satiety. This doesn’t mean nourishment. This increases fear and discontent and discomfort. More calories do NOT mean less health. If you’re getting enough food, fewer calories don’t necessarily either. 
BUT RELYING ON EXTERNAL FACTORS TO DICTATE FOOD CHOICE SUCKS.

Calorie counts are legally able to be labeled with a HUGE range of accuracy. And every body manages calorie assimilation differently. That said, if you’re connected to your body, if you rely on your body knowledge, caloric info is just useless. It is noise. Diet culture wants you in its palm & calorie obsession keeps you there.

Next time you notice yourself getting stuck on calorie labeling, name that as diet culture. Diet culture is a bully who gives no shits. Name it to tame it. This takes practice - PLEASE don’t quit.

What fuels you? What brings power to your process? .
I love to work with my hands. I enjoy manipulating materials like metal and different types of rubber. My work combines my perspective of the body as a jeweler with my understanding of the human form as a massage therapist and yoga instructor. My pieces relate to the physical forms of bodily structures, interior and exterior, and investigate the body’s strengths and limitations through adornment, sculpture, and sometimes even strange tactile paintings. .
All of my work is heavily influenced by my tactile understanding of the body. It all started when I injured my knee and tore my ACL during a gymnastics practice in my senior year of high school. I had to undergo reconstructive surgery and months of physical therapy to recover. During my physical therapy sessions, I developed an interest in the interior structures of the body, our muscles, injury, and how we heal. Soon after these sessions were over, I began practicing yoga to maintain strength and flexibility. It was around this time that I spent a few months traveling throughout California. While I was there, I developed an interest in bodywork. I wanted to work with like-minded people and I loved the idea of having a job that I could be passionate about while I worked my way through art school, so I enrolled in a trade school to become a Licensed Massage Therapist.

In my artwork, I use materials that can mimic the connective tissues that bind the body’s internal structures together. I want the viewer to feel compelled to interact with my work by stretching or compressing the material. The purpose of this type of interaction is to prompt the viewer to think about their own strengths and limitations and their relationship to the body. .
Finding a balance between running a small business, maintaining a studio practice, and juggling all of the unexpected challenges life has in store can always be struggle. But life moves and we get to choose how we want to engage with that process. We get to decide how to create time for the things that fuel us and how to reduce time for the things that don’t. .

For the past 3 months, I have been trying my best to dial in my nutrition so I can perform better in the gym. Has it been perfect? Nope. Did I fall off the wagon more often then I wanted to? Absolutely. But always remember that long term consistency beats short term intensity.

📍Week 11 was last week - weighing in at 116.6 lbs. looking a bit tighter and smaller.
📍 Week 12 was this morning - weighing in at 117 lbs; not even a full pound heavier and I look fuller thanks to all the alcohol and greasy foods this weekend. Do I regret it? Nope. #noregrets #waterretentiongamestrong .
All the days in between that you don’t see, I have weighed in as low as 113 lbs and as high as 125 lbs.

⭐️Whatever your goal is ... keep going. Don’t give up! ✨

Started our 6 week wellness challenge in the HSE off with a bang 🌟💦

Started my day with a great lower body workout followed by this ginger cherry smoothie (new obsession🤤) and it was such a great start to the day!
.
It’s nice to sometimes give yourself a little push and challenge to reach your goals which is exactly what I needed! For these next 6 weeks I’ll be focusing on getting stronger, starting my training focused on getting ready for ski season ⛷, and focusing my diet on being very wholesome and nourishing, aka lots of whole foods 😛🍎🍇🍉🍌🥦🍆 I also have a few smaller goals such as getting to bed earlier, getting back into a consistent morning routine and adding meditation back in to my routine🙌🏻

Smoothie deets—> 2 frozen bananas + 1 cup frozen cherries + 1 small piece of fresh ginger + 1 scoop vegan vanilla protein + 2 cups coconut water + 2 vegan omega capsules + 2 fruit/veg/berry capsules 😍🙏🏻
