As we are always excited to send out updates on the crops we grow and sell here in the store from our farm in Glen Ellen, we must now fill you in on the terrible fire of 2017 at our place. My son, Wesley was able to get there on 10/10 the day after the fire started. The first thing he said was "grandpa was looking down on his property and took care of it." The first picture is of the grapes Jim Canepa brought back from Italy. It burned on both sides but not the grapes. We survived! How were we so lucky?! One of my neighbors is a contractor and they brought their water tanker onto my property and watered down my roofs. My tenet is a fireman and he had an inmate crew with him. They built a 4 foot firebreak around the homes. The fires stopped at the break they created, 25 feet from the house. This was all done at 2-4 am. Someone was looking out for us! Needless to say I've got a lot of beer and grocery goodies to pass out. The farm is finished for 2017. Olives may be smoke tainted but we can live with that. We know how fortunate we are. We encourage everyone to support the efforts to restore Sonoma and Napa to their glory! We will do our part. Doug Canepa

Katie Callahan of Petaluma has been spending a majority of her time at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds Racetrack Stables volunteering by caring for livestock and horses for the last 14 days. Callahan feels honored to volunteer and serve her community at the stables. She adopted a horse Chili who was left ownerless after the fires in Santa Rosa. #hometownhero Instagram Photos | videos | post

Update from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Viticulturist Tim Rowe: There has been much ado regarding smoke taint in Napa and Sonoma Counties after the recent wildfires, and its effect on remaining crop in the field. Regarding our estates in Stags Leap District, we were fortunate enough to have harvested approximately 90% of estate acreage. Equally fortunately, Cabernet is a thick-skinned grape, and the exposure to smoke is far less likely to be detectable in finished wines. Smoke taint is caused by a range of volatile phenols that occur in wildfire smoke, and testing allows our winemaking staff to identify potentially affected lots and to take preventative action. These tests have come back with ranges far below what is detectable in finished wines. A wild finish to a wild vintage!

Putting my house back together after evacuating twice, and having gone on my LA trip was a most welcomed relief from all the devastation here at home. I’m home now an have been feeling so overwhelmed by all the fires here an what it has done to so many peoples lives, the loss is unimaginable😥 the Fire was so close, I just can’t even express how thankful I am that the fires didn’t change direction towards my neighborhood area. I am so grateful beyond words!!🙏🏼 #winecountryfires #tubbsfire #sonomacountystrong Instagram Photos | videos | post

As you know, Benedetta is headquartered in Sonoma County, and while we were not directly affected by the fires, we feel a strong sense of duty to do all we can to help our community recover from the most devastating natural disaster in modern California history. You can help us to raise these much needed funds by purchasing our body lotions. 100% of the profits will be donated to a fund for fire victims to help them rebuild their lives.

Katie Marie Nealon, of Folding Bones Press, letterpress printed her interpretation of the #sonomastrong sentiment using antique lead type and hand-carved linoleum blocks on 5x7 cardstock. Nealon says she created this “in response to the tragic fires” and “to support family, friends and neighbors who lost homes.” For more artwork, designs and prints inspired by the fires, visit @sonomamag website. Proceeds will benefit those affected by the fires. #sonomaproud #californiafires #winecountryfires #northbayfires #tubbsfire #tubbs #nunsfire #sonomafire Instagram Photos | videos | post

Charitable actions can be enjoyed by more than just the recipients - V2V launched the Wine & Food Safari to offer wine lovers the opportunity to explore dozens of boutique Sonoma County wineries, while helping to turn “wine into water” by bringing clean water to children in Africa. This year, half of the funds raised will go to long-term disaster relief efforts for children in Sonoma County that have been most devastated by the fires.
